Mrs. Denise Baptiste Shines as a BEACON in the Maritime Industry, Winning the Tricia Greaux Ocean Governance BEACON Award – St. Kitts 2026

St. Kitts and Nevis – March 8, 2026 — Mrs. Denise Baptiste has been named the first recipient in St.
Kitts of the Tricia Greaux Ocean Governance BEACON Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions
and decades of leadership in the maritime and shipping industry.
In her nomination submission, Tricia Greaux praised Mrs. Baptiste’s exceptional character and influence,
stating: “Mrs. Baptiste embodies the essence of a BEACON. She leads with quiet confidence, integrity, and
unwavering professionalism. She has served as a SHEro to me, and I am proud and honoured that she is
the first Tricia Greaux Ocean Governance Beacon Awardee for St. Kitts.”
Mrs. Baptiste devoted 37 years of service to S.L. Horsford & Company, including 23 years as Shipping
Manager. Through steady leadership, operational expertise, and an unwavering commitment to
excellence, she became a respected pillar within the maritime and shipping industry of St. Kitts and
Nevis.
As Shipping Manager, Mrs. Baptiste oversaw the local operations of two major international shipping
lines—Geest Line and King Ocean Services (formerly Bernuth Lines). Her responsibilities included vessel
scheduling, cargo logistics, customs coordination, regulatory compliance, and liaising with port
authorities and international partners.
Her leadership ensured efficient vessel turnaround, maintained compliance with evolving maritime
regulations, and strengthened operational reliability within the national shipping framework. Her work
directly supported the import and export systems that sustain commerce and economic stability in St.
Kitts and Nevis.
The standards she upheld reinforced trust in the country’s maritime operations and elevated the
professionalism of the sector.
Innovation and Change Agent
Mrs. Baptiste made history as the first local female Shipping Manager in St. Kitts, breaking barriers in a
traditionally male-dominated industry. At a time when few women held senior roles in maritime
leadership, she established herself through competence, discipline, and mastery of her field.
Her presence alone marked meaningful change within the industry. She demonstrated that leadership in
maritime operations is defined by expertise and integrity—not gender. By rising through the ranks and
excelling in a demanding environment, she paved the way for greater inclusion and inspired other
women to pursue opportunities within the sector.
Her ability to navigate complex international supply chains, adapt to regulatory changes, and maintain
operational excellence over decades reflects a forward-thinking and resilient approach to maritime
governance.
Community Support and Stakeholder Engagement
Throughout her career, Mrs. Baptiste cultivated strong relationships with customs officials, port
authorities, regional stakeholders, freight agents, and international maritime partners. Her
professionalism and collaborative spirit strengthened partnerships critical to the success of shipping
operations in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Even in retirement in 2025, she remains a trusted advisor within the maritime community. Former
colleagues and industry professionals continue to seek her counsel—a testament to the credibility and
trust she built over decades.
She generously shares her knowledge and experience, mentoring those navigating the complexities of
the industry. Beyond her professional achievements, Mrs. Baptiste is a devoted wife, mother, and
grandmother who anchors her family with the same steady presence she brought to her career. Her
influence extends beyond the workplace into the broader community through mentorship, guidance,
and quiet support.
